In the dark days of our relegation to non league Matt Tubbs was the next big thing. He'd banged goals in for Salisbury and then scored what seemed like 40 goals for money bags Crawley to help them win promotion to the league. Yet he never really made it in the league, after initial success in League 2 with Crawley, scoring a goal every other game, he signed for Bournemouth, got injured and never really came back. Today the 32 year old signed for Sutton United from FGR. He should have been Jamie Vardy before Jamie Vardy. I do hope Omars career does a Vardy rather than a Tubbs. Tubbs

He (Tubbs) was never rated as highly as Vardy or Bogle is now for that matter. He was 26 by the time he joined Crawley in July 2010 and had already had a go at Football League (Bournemouth on loan from Salisbury) and not cut it. And that's without including coming through the ranks at Bournemouth, moving to Bolton for 2 years and then returning to Bournemouth again before he was 19 and failing to make an impact or an appearance.
He was 27 before he had his first proper Football League season with Crawley. His stats look remarkably similar to Padraig Amond- prolific in Conference and solid (but unspectacular) in League 2.
And Jamie Vardy was promoted to the Football League with Fleetwood & joined Leicester at 25 and was promoted to the Premier League at 27. Omar Bogle is just 23 and is the talk of the Football League right now and scoring at a rate in League 2 that Matt Tubbs never got close to.
Bogle still has time to fulfil his huge potential. Whether he ultimately does that is pretty much irrelevent to us, because his form and goals are so impressive this season that we will sell him in the summer for a club record fee- £2m if we are still in L2 or as much as £3m if his goals fire us to promotion.
Lets not kid ourselves, he's the best striker/goalscorer we've had since Clive Mendonca. And they are so rare that they come at a huge premium.
