I think Hurst has got this one right. He rejected a two and a half year deal in December. Why? Did he not think we would get promoted, was he not prepared to commit to the club? We got promoted despite his goals drying up. Hurst re-visited the situation and surmised that a) based on his late season and previous league form he may not be quite as dangerous in the league plus he wasn't prepared to commit earlier in the season. 2 years would have been a risk. Enjoy Hartlepool and thanks for helping us get out of the National League but hey ho life goes on, and so does football. The whole team's form dipped late in the season, including the 1/2 no show away at Dover when Podge didn't even get on the pitch. Don't see why 2 years would have been a risk when 6 months ago 2 1/2 years wouldn't have been a risk. Then we didn't know what division we would be in either so arguably it was riskier then. Unless the wages offered 6 months ago were derisory.

6 months ago we were desperate to get out of the National League and he is a proven goal scorer at that level. Now we're a League 2 club and past history suggests he's an average League 2 striker. The fact that the best alternative for him was Hartlepool should tell us everything.
