Going to Hartlepool too. We only offered him a 1 year deal apparently. He's signing a 2 year deal at Hartlepool. Maybe the length of the deals we are offering to our promotion winners is the problem?

Here's some stats that question whether Amond is League 2 class or not...
National League goals against teams in Top 8 : 2 (1 pen) National League goals against teams 9th to 16th : 13 National League goals against teams in Bottom 8 : 15
Didn't do much/anything against the teams at the top end of the table did he?
Fair play to Hurst, maybe he's done the right thing in only offering him a 1 year deal? We wouldn't want to be saddled with him for 2 years on top wages if it's obvious he's not up to League 2 standards by the end of September.

I feel as if I should be more bothered at the loss of a 30+ goal striker, but it's the pending departure of our right-back that bothers me most.

Once he'd hit his 30 goal target he seemed to drop off, plus I never really noted any real commitment to the club in any of his interviews. Offering him a two year deal could've backfired. If, as the club have stated as its aim, we get promoted again then we'd be left with one year left on a player who wasn't good enough to be competitive at that level.

Golly makes an interesting point about his goals spread. Scoring 4 against Halifax and 3 against Welling is great but scoring the odd winner against a rival at the top is much more productive. Flat track bully?
It has to be said that despite his paucity of goals, we finished higher with LJL and were closer to the title than we ever were with Connel, Hearn or Amond and i expect a more physical type striker next season alongside Bogle.

Nobody expressed these doubts before the announcement though. I don't think Golly's stats necessarily mean anything either. Amond's poorer record against the top teams could just as easily be down to the rest of the team not being as good as the opposition. Amond didn't play against Tranmere away or Dover away. May have been more games he didn't play in when Hurst 'benched' him.
Nah, this is a loss. One that we'd become resigned to. But I think what's hurting is the fact he's ditched us for the ugly bird and not the one who's in the Miss Grimsby competition.

I doubt Amond would have scored that many next season (10 - 15 maybe) but worryingly I can't see us finding anyone better - another L1 or L2 journeyman perhaps or someone from the Conference 'with promise'
As for Omar I still don't rate him and I think he may well have found his level too

I 100% disagree re: Bogle. I think he'll improve this season. I could easily see him getting 16-20 goals for us next season- he stepped up when it really counted last season after all which is the sign of a good player. If we can find another striker who could add 12 or so and some midfielders who can chip in with a few here and there we'll do fine for goals. Keeping them out at the other end will be our problem without 2 or 3 quality signings.

Grimsby Telegraph- Amond: Why I decide to leave BPSays he was offered a 2 and a half year deal in January which he rejected and Hurst only offered him a 1 year deal at the end of the season. His goalscoring did tail off towards the end of the season. Maybe Hurst has decided that Amond will be found out at League 2 level. History does tell us he struggles to score and hold down a place in a team as a striker in League 2.

I think Hurst has got this one right.
He rejected a two and a half year deal in December. Why? Did he not think we would get promoted, was he not prepared to commit to the club? We got promoted despite his goals drying up. Hurst re-visited the situation and surmised that a) based on his late season and previous league form he may not be quite as dangerous in the league plus he wasn't prepared to commit earlier in the season. 2 years would have been a risk.
Enjoy Hartlepool and thanks for helping us get out of the National League but hey ho life goes on, and so does football.

Here's a name to consider. Ricky Miller. He's under contract for another year though so would mean a transfer fee. I was told Hurst was interested last summer, but Miller was facing a potential prison sentence for assault, for which he was ultimately acquitted, and that scuppered things.

Just had a quick look on the FishyFFS and it was quality.
Amond is a liar for denying he had been offered a deal in January and because of this he can't be trusted and no one believes he was only offered a 1 year contract.
I demand a statement from the club!!!!
Oh and we should have retained the team that won us promotion at all costs. Apparently a team that crawled over the line with the lowest points total to ever get promoted from the Conference/National League would have done fine in League 2!
For all Hurst's faults he knows League 2 very well and he's made the call that a 2 year deal for Amond is too risky. Hurst clearly thinks he can do better. And he's probably right.
