Looks like it all kicked off in a residents' meeting last night. I'm with the dissenters, frankly.
In a town full of huge derelict spaces that desperately need filling, Fenty is determined to build his Cock Extension in a place that needs nothing except to be left alone.
First rule of 'community stadiums' - don't piss off the community.
The standard of debate on The Fishy is like being involved in a playground spat about whose turn it is to be rush goalie. Though why this surprises me I cannot imagine. God, I love Grimsby and GTFC, but the number of absolute fucknuts here is astonishing. It's not that we don't want a new stadium and new facilities, it's that we want them in a place that will be beneficial to the area and not just to developers' wallets. If you can't make that distinction, you aren't worthy of an opinion, frankly.

Trouble is most Town fans, sorry, Fishy contributors, can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to live next to a shiny new two sided community stadium on a back road into town. Too quick to attack the supposed NIMBYS instead of seeing the whole picture. Constantly spouting the shite they are fed by Fenty about revenue streams and the club dying if we don't get a new stadium in the next three years. It's the way he operates. Give me those shares or we might have to sell our star player, give me a stadium or the club will die.

It should either be at Great Coates or (preferably) Garth Lane. End of. I suppose Peaks Parkway will be a decent location for visiting fans when we play Louth United and Boston United, but for the rest of the country you couldn't put it in a less convenient place to get to.

If only everyone was as sensible as the people on this board...

And don't get me started on having a supermarket as an enabling development. What does Grimsby & Cleethorpes already have?
2 Asdas 2 Tescos 1 Sainsburys 1 Morrisons 2 Aldis 2 Lidl
10 supermarkets in the town already. Who exactly do they think would want a store that size on Peaks Parkway? Maybe Sainsbury's, but if Sainsbury's wanted to vacate their current location that would free up land next door to Garth Lane and make that site more viable.

Most of the Fishy seem to have accepted the need for a new stadium as an act of faith, and they've waited so long that they'll follow any 'messiah' even if he is denies his own divinity. Or in plain English, even if it is in a shite location and with only two stands.
I'm prepared to accept that need if someone can show me the numbers, and if they can show me cost and revenue of buildings and operating a new stadium. Until then I'm sceptical. Quite simply I don't see any business case, and given recent history, I don't have confidence in the board will produce one.

Great Coates for me too simply because of rail and road access but didn't de Frietarse object to that too if I recall?

He did so there would at least be some poetic justice if it pitched up on Peaks Parkway.
So the stadium is now going to cost £55 million. Last I'd seen it was going to be £22 million with no clarity about who was paying what, fuck knows how we're going to get £55m. We'll have to tarmac over the Wolds from Binbrook to Barnetby at this rate.

I think the leisure complex as a whole including ice rink, NE Lincs 6th McDonalds and whatever else is costing £55m.

Well that's a bloody relief.
No information about how much the ground itself will cost and how much of that the club will have to find, who will own the ground etc. Even a simple statement would help. Disappointed by the Trust waving the flag with no assurances about the business case. If the finances stack up it would be so easy to say so. I know lots of details have to be worked out but a broad brush approach should be available.
Last figure mentioned was £22m. Club income £22m. I doubt any of us would get a mortgage for 7 times our income. I know there's talk of 'revenue streams' increasing but by how much? How much is it gonna cost to run compared to BP? All we get are platitudes.

I really don't think they are capable of making a business case. The club is run by people for whom running a football club is a miraculous achievement. Anything else and they are overstretching themselves massively.
