Don't usually like these threads but I'm starting one anyway.
I believe, with no sort of proof, that League 2 is of a better standard than the National League and, as such I think that some of our players may not be up to it.
It hurts me greatly to say it but after watching Shaun Pearsons last few performances, I don't think he'll ever be a league player and maybe not even a squad player. I also think Craig Clay may struggle. Unfortunately one of the down sides of any promotion is that sometimes a club has to let go great servants who actually deserve better.
This thread is designed to discuss only departures, if someone wants to start a thread about who they want in alongside Messi and who is great on Football Manager then feel free to do so.

So obviously I was wrong about Pearson as he's under contract but it seems I was unfortunately right about Craig Clay.
Pitman, I guess, was always likely to be the forward to go and obviously Straker and Marshall were no brainers as were the on loan players what does surprise me is that he let Robertson go.

I'd have kept Clay, young player of the year last season, can't be that bad. Worth a one year deal surely?

Dizza on board for another season, not 100% sure he's gonna last the full year

I think even if diz is more of a bit part player this season then he will show his value off the pitch too. I would also have kept clay but only as backup as don't feel he is of the standard we need now. Robertson I think could have been released due to fitness issues. Hurst must have some decent quality in mind letting them go. Hopefully some of the out of contact players will sign up soon to keep to core together

It hurts me greatly to say it but after watching Shaun Pearsons last few performances, I don't think he'll ever be a league player and maybe not even a squad player. I think the thing with Pearson is that he's dibbing in and out the team, difficult for him to maintain any sense of match sharpness. Once he has a run of games he's absolutely fine. For me we always looks a better defensive unit with Pearson in the team, even if we don't look as good in terms of football. I actually think the difference between the Conference and League Two has widened a bit since we were last in the Football League, I think the notion that the top of the Conference is better than the lower half of League Two is an outdated one. I think the pace of the game will be significant. However we'll still come up against some strikers who are purely physical and nothing else. In those situations, Shaun Pearson is the first person I would want up against them.

Good summary as usual. There must have been some reason that Hurst eventually plumped for the Toto and Gowling centre back pairing after starting the season messing about with all three. I'm not quite so enamoured with Toto as others seem to be. He reminds me of Simon Ford Mk.I theres obviously a defender in there but he's too prone to falling asleep during a game and you always feel theres one big mistake per game, fortunately for Toto he has the sort of pace that can usually get him out of trouble.

I am disappointed about both Clay and East and I can see Toto going elsewhere

Wasn't a fan of Clay and thought he was average, so not fussed he has been let go as i think we can do better. Certainly hope we can anyway. There was a massive cull of the squad the got us back in the league, so even if those offered contracts all sign, we are going to need a bit of re-building. It's been a long while since we have re-built while on the up.

Toto is, for my money, potentially the best defender we've had in years. But I agree with Barmy, especially about the Simon Ford comparison. He's got the lot. Pace, power, technical ability, he can pass the ball, he can bring it out from the back. The problem is he doesn't know when to keep it simple and went to play football. In the Conference he got away with it quite often as strikers were generally rubbish and couldn't finish their dinners or he bailed himself out with his pace. Next season the strikers will be more ruthless and won't be as easy to catch up.
He is also too easily wound up for my liking. All it takes is the opposition striker to leave a boot in on him early doors and he spends the whole game concentrating on playing them rather than the game, often losing his head completely in the process.
There's an absolute belter of a player in there, one that if he becomes consistent and steady will play at a higher level than any of his team-mates (including the more feted Bogle) but he needs to improve on his flaws ASAP. I don't pay attention to the annual rumours which often revolve around players giving up their rental properties or buying houses in other towns, but I wouldn't be surprised if Toto leaves. He's got the raw ingredients to be quality and most managers love a challenge of harnessing that talent.
With regards Clay, I liked him. I liked him a bloody lot in his first season. This season he was noway near consistent enough and considering he couldn't get in Hurst's Conference team most weeks, he was always going to be released going into League Two.
