Is anybody attending any of them. Personally I hate them although I understand the need for them.
Anyway as the eldest daughter now lives in Old Leake we are taking the opportunity to watch the match against Boston on 19th.

Nah! I hate them too and i see there is already people ready to cut their wrists because N.Ferriby slammed us tonight. They don't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

There were glimpses tonight of positivity. Clifton's run to set up the goal showed a lot of persistence and some skill.

Every time I've seen Clifton, Wright and Venney I've been impressed.
I think all three could have a massive future in the game. Crucially their attitudes seem to be absolute spot on and have an ingrained work ethic to their game.
When I saw Clifton last year he had a lot of talent and was very comfortable in running with the ball but lacked any physicality, he looks to have added a fair bit of lean muscle since then and is a far better player for it. I really wouldn't be surprised if he starts the season.
A fair bit of doom and gloom is about because of our lack of strikers (which isn't ideal but I'm sure it'll be sorted) and our pre-season results but I'm genuinely excited about the new season, too easy to forget that the vast majority of this squad haven't played together before. Pre-season games are all about figuring each other out and fitness/sharpness.

Although i broadly agree DHM; no-one has mentioned the fact that Stamford and Ferriby are also in pre season mode with new players, yet they both beat us, comfortably in the case of Ferriby and they had a lot of new faces too. We need players to put the ball in the net. I'm also not totally convinced that Boyce is a suitable replacement for Toto.

Some of the new lads haven't played that much football in the past year. There will be some major cobwebs to shake off, it's just ring-rust.
If I think back Boyce was quite shaky when he came here, on the back of a few months without any game time after signing for Scunny from Lincoln. His second loan spell came after a pre-season with Scunny with (I would guess) a fair amount of game time.
Boyce a replacement for Toto? Nah, completely different player. But I think that's by design rather than accident, I get the distinct impression we'll be playing a much different game this season. Last year, more often than not, we had no choice but to play a very high line as we tried to break teams down, that's where Toto's pace came in so useful. This season I can't imagine anywhere near as many teams will play us and park the bus, in fact looking at our recruits and our pre-season tactics I think we're the ones who will be hitting teams on the counter attack.
It'll all be ok....won't it?

Right mid mainly but I think he can play in an advanced midfield role too. He's not an out and out winger, let's put it that way.

Last pre-season was sensational and the first 8 weeks or so of the season were little better than disastrous (4-6-2 & 18 points from first 12 games). Pre-season is about getting a squad assembled and getting the players fit for August 6th.

The Hull game we looked superb, up until the final 25/30 yards. There we looked a bit lost to be honest.
Bogle and Vose don't look a deadly pairing to me. Bogle needs to work off someone or at the very least someone who will sit behind him and guide him through the runs he needs to make. Vose just looks half-arsed, I can see a lot of fans becoming very, very frustrated with him.
When the pacy wingers came on we looked a hundred times better.

Not panicking Golly. As i said above, they don't mean much in the grand scheme of things but i found it amusing that some fans were getting in a right pickle after we lost to Ferriby and others were saying how we were a new squad and need time to gel. Well that also applies to the opposition.
Would add though that i'm still not totally convinced by Hurst, although i agreed he had earned another shot last season after the play off defeat and now has earned a shot at the league for finally getting us out of non league. He seems to have a blind spot when it comes to signing strikers and we always look light in that department.

Hearn, LJL, Amond.
That's three 20-goal+ strikers he's signed.
Prior to Hurst we had two strikers (Mendonca and Connell) who had reach the heralded 20-goal mark in what, 25 years?
Add to that he brought in players like Ollie Palmer who made big contributions. Look at the absolute shite we had in the previous ten years compared to those signed by Hurst.
Yes his record at bringing defenders in is arguably better but I genuinely think good strikers are a greater commodity, hence them generally costing more money (fees and wages).

If you're buying a contracted player it's a bit like buying a house. Club X will sell you Striker Y, but only after they signed Striker Z from Club W and so on...

I'm not renewing my season ticket if we sign Striker Y. He's shit!
